Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev. A Soviet statesman and Communist Party official, Brezhnev was, in effect, the leader of the Soviet Union for 18 years. In 1960 he became chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet.

L90 Years pass, but this October day remains in national memory forever, as a great evidence of Lenin principles’ vitality. And the further our society goes forward to communism, the more creative opportunities of socialist democracy and power in interests of people it opens. They are all reflected in a new constitution. All experience of sixty years development on a way of October shows that our force is in indestructible unity of the party and nation. Let’s do everything to consolidate and to deepen this great unity”.
